James Wood is somehow 9th in fan voting among NL outfielders despite being a top five performer in most categories
I know it has been tough lately, but Nationals fans need to step up their game and show James Wood some love. Despite being a shining light in what has become a dark season of Nationals baseball, Wood is just 9th among NL outfielders in All-Star voting.
James Wood ranks among NL outfielders in:
OPS – 1st (.928)
OPS+ – 1st (162)
wRC+ – 1st (157)
wOBA – 1st (.397)
SLG% – 2nd (.550)
RBI – 2nd (51)
HR – T2nd (18)
bWAR – 3rd (3.2)
Hard Hit% – 3rd (56.8%)
XBH – 3rd (36)
Win Prob. Add. – 3rd (1.9)
Walks – T3rd (41)

With the numbers Wood is putting up, it is a joke that he is not in the top 6. I get All-Star voting is a popularity contest, but how is he behind Ronald Acuna Jr. who has played 21 games? Why is Acuna even on the ballot, he has barely played this season. We need to step up our game and get our hometown hero more votes than the likes of Andy Pages.
The Nationals big slugger is having a season for the ages in his first full season. He has 3.2 WAR, 18 homers, a .928 OPS and a 162 OPS+. Keep in mind that this is a 22 year old who is in his first full season in the big leagues. His numbers not only suggest that Wood should be on the team, but that he should be a starter.
Among NL Outfielders – James Wood ranks:
1st in OPS
2nd in Doubles
3rd in RBIs
3rd in Hits
3rd in Home Runs
3rd in SLG
4th in Walks
4th in OBPCurrently 9th in All Star voting…

Wood is almost certainly making the team even without the fan vote. The Nationals need a representative, and he easily deserves a nod. MacKenzie Gore will probably join him in Atlanta.
However, we need to step up our game. James Wood is one of the best outfielders in the game and deserves to be recognized as such. Even in this miserable nine game losing streak, he has still been pretty good. Last night he homer and doubled. The homer was to the opposite field, something that has become a trademark for the big slugger.

We have a special player on our hands and he deserves nationals respect. It is time to stop the steal and give James Wood the All-Star starter spot he deserves. He is a home town kid who is performing at a Soto/Harper level at 22.
It is a really rough time to be a Nationals fan, but this is our guy, we need to show up for James Wood. After all, James Wood shows up for us every night. He is the guy who is circled by every manager as the guy you can’t let beat you. However, he beats teams night after night.
Another perk would be getting to see him in the Home Run Derby. I wrote about how he would put on a show in that competition if he competed. This guy is one of the most talented players in baseball, and we have to show him the love he deserves. Do as James’ mom says and vote for her boy to make the All-Star game.

The link to vote for James is right here in this LINK. Even in these tough times, us Nationals fans need to show out. Without this monster in the middle of the lineup, who knows how bad this Nats team would be. It is time to vote and show love for our young superstar James Wood!
