Another top prospect is joining the Washington Nationals to replace an injured outfielder

The Washington Nationals are making another move in the outfield. Jacob Young tried to recover from his shoulder injury without going on the IL. However, it did not work, and the outfielder will hit the shelf. To replace him, the Nationals are calling up top prospect Daylen Lile.

We have made the following roster moves:

– selected the contract of OF Daylen Lile from Triple-A Rochester
– placed OF Jacob Young on the 10-day IL

— Washington Nationals (@Nationals) May 23, 2025

While we wish the best for Young, this is an exciting move for the Nats. Lile has been hitting the cover off the ball this season. Across two levels, Lile is hitting .337 with an .892 OPS. He has really stepped up his game following a promotion to Triple-A.

At Rochester, Lile is hitting 361 with a .946 OPS. He has such a smooth, simple swing that is a joy to watch. His pure hitting ability is his calling card.

However, this will make the Nats lineup even more left handed, something that is already an issue. I would imagine that Lile, Hassell and Call will share playing time with two of them being in right and center field.

If Josh Bell continues to struggle, you have the option of making one of them a DH as well. It will be interesting to see how long Young is out and what they do when he gets back.

A lot of this will come down to who is performing. The Nationals have so many options in the outfield these days and this shows it. Two of their starting outfielders went down and they just turned to two top prospects, both of whom were performing well.

It goes to show how far this team has come in the last few years. The days of calling up the likes of Jake Alu and Blake Rutherford are done. Now we get exciting up and comers. Congratulations to Daylen Lile on the call up. Based on his Minor League numbers, we could be in for a treat.
