Three Top MLB Prospects Have Been Traded This Offseason

January 11, 2026 by Last Word On Baseball

This has been a busy MLB offseason for teams acquiring young offensive talent, as three of Baseball America’s Top 100 MiLB prospects have been shipped to new homes and are looking to make their new big league clubs out of spring training. Teams have prioritized offense this offseason, with this list headlined by two outfielders and a catcher.

The Best Minor League Prospects Traded This MLB Offseason

Owen Caissie

Owen Cassie is no stranger to trade rumors. The Chicago Cubs supposedly shopped him prior to the 2025 season and during the 2025 trade deadline before parting with him this offseason. He was the main piece in a trade for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera. The Canadian slugging outfielder is currently ranked 55th on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospect list. With a tall upright stance from the left side and a minimal leg kick, he draws Cody Bellinger comparisons. At the minor league level, he has a career .280 average with 81 homers. Known for his bat, he has had a swing-and-miss issue, striking out at an alarming 29% during his time in pro ball. He profiles as an average right fielder with average speed and a plus arm. Caissie will likely start for a rebuilding Marlins team, splitting time in the outfield and at DH.

Harry Ford

Looking for his breakout role in Washington as either Han Solo or the starting catcher, Harry Ford is ready for his chance to shine. Coming in at 74 on Baseball America’s Top 100 list and previously blocked by Cal Raleigh with the Seattle Mariners, Ford was traded to the Washington Nationals for left-handed reliever Jose Ferrer. With a toe-tap driven stance and a stocky frame, Ford has the ability to hit for some pop while using all fields. Adding 80+ steals across his time in the minors, Ford presents himself as a 20-20 prospect behind the dish. While not seen as a top-end defender behind the plate, his natural athleticism indicates that with increased reps, he could flourish at the position.

Ford looks to share time with Keibert Ruiz at catcher while also seeing reps in the outfield. He will also play for Team Great Britain at the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Jhostynxon García

Few people across any sport are able to gain a nickname with a cult following like Jhostynxon García. After debuting in the Red Sox’s system, García quickly picked up the nickname ‘The Password’ for his unique first name. Prior to 2024, he saw early struggles stateside. Then, the 2024 season brought García career highs in batting average, home runs, and steals while advancing through three levels. Last season saw more success for García, as he added 21 homers and 75 RBI across upper levels. He was dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this offseason. A strong athletic build and good instincts make García an average center fielder. His biggest flaw is his propensity to strike out. He strikes out nearly three times more than he walks, which raises some red flags. García will look to improve his approach at the big league level.
