Washington is coming off four consecutive series losses and has continued to tumble down the standings, riding an eight-game losing streak. After a tough series against the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, and New York Mets, Washington looked to get back on track against NL East last-place holders Miami Marlins. Three close, brutal losses later, fans are questioning who is in charge and the decisions being made internally. At home against the Colorado Rockies for a four-game series, Washington desperately needs this series as the schedule doesn’t get any easier any time soon.
Colorado has been one of the worst teams in MLB history up to this point in the season. However, they couldn’t have caught a great break playing against Washington. Colorado’s season is over; however, they would love to see some progression from the young players and hope to build on that progress into 2026.
Washington is hoping for a spark with Brady House making his MLB debut today. The most questionable spot in the field is third base and House could be the long-term answer for Washington on the hot corner. Daylen Tile could provide a spark as Robert Hassell and Jose Tena have been demoted. Lowe and Garcia out of the lineup means Washington is relying on Abrams and Wood to continue their stellar offensive seasons.

Colorado fans have been through the worst this season, and it doesn’t look to get any better any time soon. Tyler Freeman has been a pleasant surprise and could be trade bait, earning more minor league depth. Against the down-bad Washington squad, Colorado could see some success in this series.

Washington desperately needs a win today and a series win. With series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres coming after Colorado, Washington would love to create some winning momentum to try and take down two powerhouses in the NL West.
