Washington Nationals vs New York Mets 6/11 Game Thread

June 12, 2025 by Federal Baseball

The Daily Gazette

Nats need to bounce back after getting walked off for their third consecutive loss last night

The Nats had it all going on in the early innings last night, with MacKenzie Gore giving them 6 innings of 2 run ball and CJ Abrams and Nathaniel Lowe both hitting homers. However, it all came apart in the 8th with the Mets tying the game against Jose Ferrer and Kyle Finnegan, before walking it off in the 10th inning. Having now lost 3 in a row and in danger of dropping their 3rd straight series with another loss, the Nats need to show their resilience and bounce back tonight after a tough loss.

Jake Irvin will take the ball tonight with the responsibility of keeping the strong Mets lineup at bay. In 5 career starts, Irvin has a 3.78 vs the Mets, including his signature 8 inning performance on the 4th of July last year. Outside of two 6 run outings vs the Mets 5 days after that start and in 2023, Irvin has largely dominated the Mets, having 3 performances of 7 innings or more and 1 run or less. Andres Chaparro will get his first start of 2025 after hitting a pinch hit double last night. Luis Garcia Jr gets a rare start with a lefty on the mound, something that could become a trend with Nunez back in Rochester.

The Mets will give the ball to left hander David Peterson tonight, who has enjoyed a nice breakout season to the tune of a 2.80 ERA over 70 2⁄3 innings pitched. Peterson has historically pitched well against the Nats, with a career ERA of 3.07 against them in 9 starts and 3 relief appearances. The lineup for the Mets is pretty typical at the top, with an interesting swap of Brett Baty at second base and Ronny Mauricio at third base for them.

Last nights game was lost because the Nats made the little errors that have continued to plague them such as baserunning goofs and bad fielding. They need to play cleaner baseball tonight if they want a shot at beating the best team in the NL by record, the Mets. Can they do it? Comment down below and let’s go Nats!
