The Washington Nationals (13-17) are continuing a six game road trip facing the Philadelphia Phillies.
Coming off a competitive series against the New York Mets, Washington fell short in a close battle to Philadelphia yesterday to start off a three-game series. MacKenzie Gore produced another quality start, while C.J. Abrams and Nathaniel Lowe carried the offense. However, Washington’s bullpen problems continue as Kyle Finnegan gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth, including the game-winning wild pitch for Philadelphia.
A sneaky-good pitching matchup as Jake Irvin will take the mound for Washington, and Cristopher Sanchez will be at the helm for Philadelphia.
Luis Garcia Jr. gets the day off as Rosario gets the nod in the two-hole. C.J. Abrams is coming off of a great performance yesterday with four hits and Nathaniel Lowe will look to continue his incredible power surge this season.
Irvin’s recent stretch has solidified him in Washington’s rotation, allowing just three earned runs in his last 20.2 innings. In his last start against the New York Mets, the 28-year-old put on one of his best performances of the season, going 7.1 innings while allowing five hits and one earned run.

After winning last night’s game on a wild pitch, Philadelphia could take a convincing series lead. Bryson Stott was the hero last night and is leading off for a star-studded lineup. With New York having a serious lead in the National League East, Philadelphia will need to create momentum to try and compete for a division title in 2025.
Cristopher Sanchez has gotten off to a solid start, producing a 3.42 ERA in 26.1 innings. In his last start, against the New York Mets, Sanchez only lasted two innings due to soreness in his left forearm. It is unsure if Sanchez’s pitch count will be monitored, but according to Phillies manager Rob Thomson, “He’s been fine… He’s ready to go.”
