Washington Nationals vs Texas Rangers 6/6 Game Thread

Patrick Corbin makes his return to DC as the Nats look to bounce back from a series loss to the Cubs

The Nats dropped their rubber match with the Chicago Cubs 7-1 last night, as the Cubs knocked Jake Irvin out of the game after 5 innings and scored 4 additional runs off the Nationals’ bullpen. The bright spot for the Nats last night was a trio of lefties in the lineup, CJ Abrams, Luis Garcia Jr, and Robert Hassell III, all recorded multiple hits, including doubles for Abrams and Garcia Jr.

The Nats will look to rebound against a Texas Rangers squad who is coming off being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. The first man responsible for keeping down a struggling Rangers lineup will be Michael Soroka, who is looking to finally extend some of his early game success deeper into an outing for once. Jacob Young makes his return to the lineup tonight, batting 8th and playing left field. In a corresponding move, Daylen Lile has been optioned back to Triple-A Rochester. With a lefty on the mound, Bell, Ruiz, and Garcia Jr. hit the bench, with Call, Adams, and Nunez getting starts.

The Rangers will give the ball to Patrick Corbin tonight, who faces the Nationals for the first time since his 6 year tenure with the club came to an end last season. Corbin has been much improved this season compared to the majority of his seasons in the nations capital, boasting a 3.71 ERA so far in 2025. The Rangers lineup remains largely unchanged from their series against the Rays, with the most notable changes being an off day for Josh Jung against a righty and Marcus Semien moves into the 4 spot after a 2 home run game against the Rays in their series finale.

Both the Rangers and Nationals lineups have struggled to score runs as of lot, so this game and series will largely be decided by which team plays cleaner baseball and does doesn’t give away runs or outs to the other team. Do you have faith in the Nats to do so? Comment down below and let’s go Nats!
