Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Jan. 23.
Girls basketball
Howard 80, Guilford Park 33: The Lions (10-3, 4-1 Sierra Division) scored a season-high in the win. Three different Howard players scored in double figures led by Kelsey Wimmer (18). Alana Harrison (16) and Mariyah Hammock (10) were right behind her. Eight Howard players scored in the win. For Guilford Park (5-9, 2-2 Sierra) Audrey Morrison-Lang scored 15 points.
Oakland Mills 49, Reservoir 34: The Scorpions (8-4) built a seven-point halftime lead and added onto it in the second half. Chloe Grenway scored 13 points, while both Adey Alexander and Chloe Jenkins scored nine. For Reservoir (8-4), Chloe Nguena scored a game-high 14 points while Blythe Pietryka added 10.
Long Reach 29, Hammond 23: The Lightning (5-9) outlasted Hammond in a tight defensive battle. Jaiden Bryant scored a team-high nine points and was disruptive defensively with seven steals. Sydney Nance and Haley Ruddy scored seven points each.
Boys basketball
Howard 64, Wilde Lake 56: Carter Parise scored a team-high 17 points for Howard in the win. The Lions (5-7) saw seven different players score and battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit. For Wilde Lake (0-12), Marshall Harper scored a team-high 17 points.
Oakland Mills 58, Reservoir 55: The Scorpions (12-1) maintained their winning ways and extended their county best record. Caleb Redd scored 14 points and added nine rebounds, while Hayes Bishop also scored 14. JD McCoy (13) and Daniel Ndiritu (11) also scored in double figures. For Reservoir (5-8), Lorenzo Foster Franklin had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Marriotts Ridge 63, Glenelg 49: The Mustangs (11-1) remained as one of Howard County’s two-one loss teams. George Klaus led the charge with 20 points, while Sam Tatarov (17) and Josh Okon (16) also delivered key contributions. For Glenelg (5-4), Steven Mbuyamba scored 16 points.
