
It was a two win, two loss night on the farm
Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 11, Charlotte Knights (CWS) 3
Brandon Young was on the mound for the Tides and gave up two runs in six innings. Young allowed just four hits, including a triple that scored on a ground out and a solo home run. He struck out five and walked two.
The Tides’ offense was on fire. They had two five-run innings, and every starter had at least one hit. They scored 11 runs on 13 hits without the benefit of a home run. Dylan Beavers reached base four times from the top of the lineup with two singles and two walks. Samuel Basallo and Coby Mayo had one hit apiece, Basallo’s a double. Livan Soto had three hits in the game.
Double-A: Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 8, Chesapeake Baysox 7 – F/10
It was a back-and-forth affair that ended with the Yard Goats on top. The Baysox scored one in the top of the ninth to tie the game and one in the 10th to go ahead, then lost on a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th.
Each of the four Baysox pitchers gave up two runs, starting with Levi Wells. Wells pitched four innings with two runs on three hits.
Creed Willems homered twice, including the game-tying shot in the ninth inning. Douglas Hodo and Noelberth Romero also had two-hit games, with Romero launching his first home run of the year.
High-A: Bowling Green Hot Rods (TBR) 4, Aberdeen IronBirds 1
The IronBirds had just two hits in the game. Aron Estrada singled in the second inning. He moved up on a HBP, over to third on a ground out, and came in to score on a wild pitch. At the time, it gave the IronBirds a 1-0 lead. In the ninth, Griff O’Farrell hit an infield single.
Aberdeen starter Nestor German had a nice night, with two runs allowed in 5.1 innings. German kept the Hot Rods off the board until the fifth inning when he allowed a solo home run. The second scored in the sixth inning on two doubles. German struck out seven batters without a walk.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 5, Fayetteville Woodpeckers (HOU) 4
The Shorebirds scored once in the top of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and grab the win. First baseman Yasmil Bucce had a three-hit, three-RBI night, falling just a home run short of the cycle. His eighth-inning double knocked in the winning run.
Sebastian Gongora started and gave up an unearned run in 2.1 innings. He had four strikeouts against just one walk. His relief, Evan Yates, allowed three runs in 3.2 innings.
