The Shorebirds were the only team to grab a win last night.

Triple-A: Lehigh Valley IronPigs (PHI) 5, Norfolk Tides 4 – Game 1

Trevor Rogers followed his excellent start for Baltimore with another solid performance last night. He went 5.2 innings with two runs allowed. He did give up seven hits, but didn’t walk a batter. He struck out two. Relief pitcher Levi Stoudt gave up two runs in the seventh to send the game to extra innings (minor-league doubleheaders are seven innings). Kade Strowd allowed the ghost runner to score in the eighth for the loss.

The Tides led for most of the game thanks in part to leadoff batter Vimael Machín, who had four hits. He hit a two-run home run and fell a triple short of the cycle. David Bañuelos had an RBI double. Samuel Basallo, who played first base, was hitless but walked twice.

Box Score

Triple-A: Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5, Norfolk Tides 1 – Game 2

The Tides had just five hits in this game, three of which came in the sixth inning. Singles by Luis Vázquez, Machín, and Terrin Vavra led to one run with Vavra picking up the RBI. It was a two-hit day for Vázquez. Samuel Basallo, serving as DH, doubled in the game. Dylan Beavers was hitless but walked twice.

Roansy Contreras started and pitched three innings, giving up three runs. One of those runs was unearned thanks to back-to-back errors from catcher Connor Pavolony and second baseman Fernando Peguero. Raúl Alcantara and recent Oriole Yaramil Hiraldo allowed one run each in relief.

Box Score

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) 8, Chesapeake Baysox 1

The Baysox offense had a rough night, managing just four hits. Their lone run scored in the sixth inning. Enrique Bradfield doubled and was thrown out on a ground ball from Jeremiah Jackson. Jackson moved to third on a single from Creed Willems and scored on a wild pitch.

Nestor German started for the Baysox and allowed five runs in just 3.2 innings. Four of those came in the second inning when he gave up four hits and two walks, and wasn’t helped by a throwing error from the catcher, Willems.

Box Score

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (NYM) 5, Aberdeen IronBirds 4

The bullpen blew this one for the IronBirds. They took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning, but relief pitcher Zane Barnhart gave up two in the eighth to tie the game. Christian Herberholz allowed a walk-off homer to seal the loss. Starter Luis De León gave up two runs (one earned) in four innings.

Aron Estrada singled, doubled, walked, and stole two bases. He now has 20 steals on the season. Jalen Vasquez also had two hits. Estrada and Angel Tejada each knocked in a run with a single, and Austin Overn got an RBI on a squeeze bunt.

Box Score

Low-A: Hickory Crawdads (TEX) 10, Delmarva Shorebirds 2 – Completion from 5/30

This game began on Friday but was suspended due to rain after four innings and the Shorebirds down, 10-0. The good news is the Shorebirds didn’t allow another run, with Yeiber Cartaya pitching 4.1 scoreless innings.

The two runs the Shorebirds scored were uninspiring but kind of hilarious. In both the sixth and eighth innings, Colin Tuft started the inning with a walk and took second base on defensive indifference. In the sixth, he came around to score on two groundouts. In the eighth, Raylin Ramos singled him in.

Box Score

Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 3, Hickory Crawdads 2

Jacob Cravey pitched six innings for the Shorebirds, allowing two runs on four hits. He allowed solo runs in the third and fifth innings. Each time he allowed up an extra-base hit followed by a single. Luis Beltrán pitched a scoreless seventh to finish things off.

The Shorebirds offense scored a single run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and Yasmil Bucce was right in the middle of things. In the fourth Bucce tripled and came in on a single from Edwin Amparo. In the fifth inning, Bucce knocked in Maikol Hernández, who had walked. Bucce allowed his teammates to get in on the fun in the sixth, as Alfredo Velásquez got an RBI triple.

Bucce now has a .914 OPS on the season.
