Three of the affiliates were rained out. But the one that did play, won!
Triple-A: Norfolk Tides at Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins) – PPD/Rain
Bad weather wiped out most of the minor league slate on Wednesday night. That included this one scheduled down in Jacksonville. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox vs Reading Fightin’ Phils (Phillies) – PPD/Rain
The Baysox and Fightin’ Phils were supposed to play two games on Wednesday. Instead, they played none. That means they will have two more doubleheaders this week. One while take place on Thursday, and the other on Saturday.
High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds vs. Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Phillies) – PPD/Inclement Weather
Yet another washout. These two sides play play a pair of games on Thursday instead.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 3, Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Astros) 1
The only affiliate to actually play a game on Wednesday turned in a solid, winning performance. It was led by some great work on the mound by a pair of pitchers.
Evan Yates got the start. He worked five innings and only had trouble in one of them. the third inning saw Yates allow his only run of the outing when the Woodpeckers strung together three singles. Other than that, the Shorebirds starter was nearly perfect. He faced the minimum in innings one, two, and four, and wrapped up the fifth with relative ease as well.
Michael Caldon was responsible for the final four frames and was similarly dominant. All that the Woodpeckers could manage against him was a trio of singles. He walked no one and allowed zero runs.
The offense had plenty of traffic on the bases, but struggled to take full advantage. As a team they went just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
Seven different Delmarva hitters had a hit, and no one turned in a multi-hit game. The only extra-base hit was a double from lead-off hitter Elis Cuevas. He went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and three stolen bases. Fernando Peguero scored the other run after reaching base on a walk and stealing a base. Nate George went 1-for-5 and swiped a pair of bases. Yasmil Bucce was 1-for-4 with a walk, and an RBI.
