Vimael Machín reminded Baltimore’s front office that he’s available to take an open roster spot with a three-hit night at Norfolk.
Triple-A: Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) 7, Norfolk Tides 4
Kyle Brnovich surrendered four runs in the top of the first, and the Tides never recovered. After a wild first, Brnovich returned for the second inning and proceeded to walk the bases loaded. Preston Johnson entered and recorded the final out of the inning to keep Brnovich’s line at 1.2 IP, 3 hits, 4 ER and 6 walks.
Levi Stoudt and Cionel Pérez both tossed a pair of scoreless innings. Pérez struggled in Baltimore this season, but he could provide some much needed experience to a now depleted Baltimore bullpen sometime soon.
Vimael Machín attempted to bring the Tides back with a solo homer in the second and an RBI single in the third. José Barrero recorded a sacrifice fly for the third run, and Machín added another run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. Machín finished 3-for-5 on the day.
Dylan Beavers went 1-for-5 with a run scored from the leadoff spot, and Luis Vazquez finished 2-for-4 with a walk.
Double-A: New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) vs. Chesapeake Baysox (PPD — Rain)
The makeup game is now scheduled for August 2.
High-A: Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays) 7, Aberdeen IronBirds 4
The IronBirds jumped out to a three-run lead with a four-run sixth, but the bullpen let things get away. Devin Kirby allowed a pair of runs in the sixth, and Ryan Cabarcas took the loss after surrendering four runs (two earned).
On a brighter note, Aberdeen starter Jacob Cravey limited Bowling Green to one run over 4.1 innings. Cravey only allowed two hits and struck out five.
Jake Cunningham and Anderson De Los Santos combined for six of Aberdeen’s nine hits and all three doubles. Elis Cuevas finished with a pair of singles in four trips.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 5, Lynchburg Cannon Ballers (White Sox) 2 F/8
After an extensive rain delay, the game was changed to a seven-inning contest, but the teams decided seven was not enough. The Cannon Ballers forced “extra innings” with a two-run seventh.
Edwin Amparo drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the tenth, and Braylin Tavera brought in two insurance runs with a single. Andy Fabian tossed a scoreless eighth to secure the win.
Fernando Peguero got Delmarva on the board with an RBI single in the second. The ShoreBirds had an opportunity to tack on more, but Nate George grounded into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.
Kevin Guerrero doubled the lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third.
