Three Orioles Players Who Could Be On the Move at the Deadline

July 23, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

Now sitting 11 games under .500, the Baltimore Orioles are likely to dump some of their players to try and rebuild major holes on their roster. Most of their needs center around the rotation, the outfield, and first base. The Orioles have been pegged as potential trade deadline sellers with several players expected to hit free agency in 2026.

Several players could move at the deadline for sizeable prospect packages or MLB-ready players to plug into areas of concern. If the team decides to sell at the trade deadline, the moves will hurt Baltimore for the rest of the year. But their upcoming free agents, especially two of them, could net a haul if a team looking for a push into the postseason offers the right price. There is a trio of players the team could look to sell for the long-term future of the team.

Three Orioles Trade Deadline Chips

Ryan O’Hearn

2025 Stats: 288 ABs; .278/.373/.854; 14 doubles; 12 HRs; 36 RBI; 40 BB to 56 K; 3 SB

The lone Oriole to represent the team at the All-Star Game, designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn is having a career year. The 31-year-old is on track to hit the most home runs in the season, while setting career highs in batting average, on-base percentage, and walks. His strikeout rate is also under 20%, another important statistic for teams that are buying.

✅ Fits: Giants, Reds

? My Take:
O’Hearn is just about the only bright spot on a disappointing Orioles team. This screams Giants to me, a team…

Many teams are looking for extra power and on-base hitters in the final third of the season. The Boston Red Sox could be a potential fit, as Rafael Devers is no longer with the team, and Masataka Yoshida is struggling through an injury-plagued season. The Seattle Mariners are a suitor as well, with a move for O’Hearn allowing Jorge Polanco to move back to second base.

The Orioles could strike a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers, since they need more power in a tight division race. The key for the Orioles is getting the most from a deadline trade. With the Mariners and Brewers ranked number one and two, respectively, in farm system rankings from Bleacher Report, O’Hearn could be on the move to one of those two teams.

Ramón Laureano

2025 Stats: 225 ABs; .280/.340/.854; 16 doubles; 12 HRs; 40 RBI; 20 BB to 65 K; 4 SB.

The 30-year-old veteran outfielder Ramón Laureano is also having a career year with the team, like O’Hearn. Laureano is on track to have his best season since his 2019 performance with the then-Oakland Athletics. His hard-hit percentage, however, is at an all-time high of 46%. In an era of the game where exit velocity holds a lot of value, it boosts his trade value.

Teams will also be looking at Laureano closely alongside O’Hearn, but his market might be a little wider. He has a 2026 club option that’s worth $6.5 million, so it gives a team a year of control. More teams that need outfield help, like the St. Louis Cardinals or Tampa Bay Rays, could make offers. Both need to replace their right fielders, with the Cardinals struggling to get Jordan Walker up to speed.

The good news is that the aforementioned Rays and Cardinals, alongside the Brewers and Mariners, have farm systems ranked in the top half. Neither O’Hearn nor Laureano will net the highest prospects, but the Orioles could walk away with some important outfielders and rotation pieces. Think Santiago Suarez from the Rays or Cooper Hjerpe from the Cardinals. Think Jared Sundstrom from the Mariners or Luis Lara from the Brewers.

Félix Bautista

2025 Stats: 35 appearances (19 saves); 2.60 ERA; 34.2 IP; 16 H and 23 BB (1.13 WHIP); 50 K; 3 HR; .134 OBA

Following Tommy John surgery, Orioles closer Félix Bautista bounced back after a rough opening to his 2025 campaign. His home run rate remains low, while he’s inducing more ground balls than ever at over 50%. The downside is that his control is off, his walk rate jumping to 16.2% and his strikeout rate going down to 35%.

Most, if not all, trade buyers will be looking for bullpen help at the deadline, especially a closer. With Bautista under team control for the next two years, playoff teams and those in the hunt will be making calls. It’s been reported that the Los Angeles Dodgers are pursuing the pitcher, but the team might not even move him.

If they do, he will haul a large number of prospects for both the plate and the mound. The possibilities would be endless given his numbers and the two years of team control. It might be a mistake for the team not to trade him if they want to focus on rebuilding the lineup, but the decision largely rests on Mike Elias’s shoulders.
