In which we get a rematch no Orioles fan wants to see: Jacob deGrom versus Brandon Young.
Last night’s game was an absolute thriller, if you stayed up, but tonight, be prepared for a matchup only the hardiest of O’s fans are likely to enjoy: two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, who absolutely demolished O’s hitters last week, vs. Brandon Young, who’s started exactly three MLB games in his career and has an ERA above seven.
Sigh. This is not how any of us drew up the Orioles’ season, or tonight’s game. Young is a last-minute replacement, announced this morning, for Charlie Morton, who’s reportedly battling elbow tendinitis, but will try to stay in the rotation, just pushed back a bit. Young’s last start was against the Rangers, as it happens, who hit him pretty hard last week, despite moments of competence, scoring four runs over four innings.
As for deGrom, yeah. . . . the Orioles didn’t have a hit off of him through seven innings, and only an eighth-inning Colton Cowser single broke up the right-handers’ no-no.
This was a lopsided matchup before Charlie Morton’s start got pushed back. As it is, well, this is maybe a good time to wash your car, fold laundry, catch up on emails. . . or chance it with us!
