The bronze medalists in the men’s and women’s tournaments are decided!

There is only one more basketball game left in the 2020 Olympics which is also the most important one for this site given who’s on the team since Washington Mystics players Tina Charles and Ariel Atkins are on the squad: The USA Basketball women’s national team will play Japan for the gold medal at 10:30 p.m. ET tonight.

In the meantime, the bronze medal matches have been played for both the men and women, so here’s what happened:

The battle of the point guards!

The Boomers won their first Olympic medal in national history after 15 appearances today after Patty Mills had a 42 point and 9 assists performance. While both teams shot well today, Australia forced Slovenia to commit 17 turnovers, including eight alone by Luka Doncic, who scored 22 points.

Women’s Bronze Match: France avenges EuroBasket championship loss with a 91-76 win

Gabby Williams had a strong three point game to lead France to their second Olympic medal in their last three appearances.

The France women’s national basketball team came into the Olympics as the EuroBasket runner ups to Serbia. With this match, Les Bleues were able to get revenge by denying the Serbs a medal in the process.

After a closely contested first half, and more accurately a 23-19 first quarter deficit, the French outscored the Serbs every quarter, thanks in part to shooting 51.9 percent from three.

For France, Gabby Williams scored 17 points (which included four made threes), grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Seven French players scored in double figures. Yonne Anderson led Serbia with 24 points and Jelena Brooks added 14 more.
