Carmelo Anthony Hoping To Own Specific NBA Team – Currently Tanking But Bright Future Ahead

April 2, 2025 by The Spun

Meet The Girlfriend Of Karl-Anthony Towns (1:11)

Hours before he was announced as a future member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Carmelo Anthony expressed his intention of buying a wandering-around NBA team.

The former New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets star has earned a strong media presence with his “7PM in Brooklyn” show, but he wants to take his expertise to new areas.

A clip of his show made the rounds on social media on Tuesday. The No. 3 overall pick in the iconic 2003 NBA draft named an Eastern Conference franchise as his target to become an NBA team owner soon

“I want to buy the Wizards. I would be a great owner,” Anthony said. “Former player. I understand players. I understand personnel, I understand being fatigued. I understand how to build teams, but I also understand what I don’t understand. I know what I don’t know.

“You also have to put people in those positions. President, GM, you put all the basketball acumen in those positions, and then you cover that with a business model.”

The Washington Wizards have tried to contend for the past 12 years, with stars such as John Wall and Bradley Beal trying but failing to succeed. Currently, they have Alex Sarr as one of their young stars and a seemingly bright future.

Contrary to many former players who pursue coaching careers, Anthony is aiming higher and plans to have the most important position within a franchise. Michael Jordan was the first and only former player to be a majority owner of an NBA team.

Shaquille O’Neal was a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings, but his job with TNT and the league’s rules made him sell his stake.

Dwyane Wade, a close friend of Anthony, is a minority owner of the Utah Jazz. LeBron James, one of his best friends, has stated his desire to own a team, too. This could mark the start of a new era in the league, but time will tell if Anthony can achieve this ambitious goal.
