Ranking The Best Fit For Caleb Wilson Among Bottom 5 Teams

December 25, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

It is hard to deny the sheer talent in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft. At the top, there is a three-headed monster in Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, and AJ Dybantsa. All three of Peterson, Boozer, and Dybantsa have the talent and skill to be franchise-changing prospects. The real draft begins after that, as there is a gap between them and the rest of the draft. However, this class is still filled with high-end talent, with many prospects who have an argument to go in the top five. One of the most popular names in top-five rankings is UNC forward Caleb Wilson.

Unquestionably, Wilson is an incredibly athletic wing who utilizes his physical gifts to be impactful on both ends. While he is still a work in progress, Wilson has shown plenty of strong flashes during his time in college. With his athleticism and upside, he could certainly be a major get for any team in the top five. As of December 22nd, let’s dive into a ranking of the best fit for Caleb Wilson among the bottom five teams in the NBA.

Ranking The Best Fit For Caleb Wilson Among Bottom 5 Teams

#1. Indiana Pacers

Out of all the teams on this ranking, the pairing between the Indiana Pacers and Wilson is the best. Specifically, the Pacers have the personnel and playstyle that would naturally fit with Wilson. Wilson provides the athleticism and defensive potential that lend themselves well to Indiana’s system. In terms of the benefits for Wilson, the Pacers have the personnel like Pascal Siakam, Andrew Nembhard, and Tyrese Haliburton, when healthy, who can create plenty of excellent looks for Wilson to feast on. Wilson is still developing his on-ball skills, so having these creators next to him will help with his transition to the NBA. Plus, Indiana runs an offensive system that prioritizes fast-paced possessions and transition opportunities. Wilson’s strengths as a prospect perfectly fit with what Indiana is trying to accomplish.

As for the team, Wilson would be a major positive in two areas for the Pacers. The first area that Wilson positively affects is that he will add more athleticism on the wings. His athleticism allows him to be a major transition threat for Indiana, making their transition attack even more deadly. The second area is how much Wilson can improve Indiana’s defense, given his defensive potential. Using said athleticism, Wilson has shown plenty of great flashes in terms of his defense, generating steals and blocks like it’s nothing. Wilson would be an unbelievably good fit for the Pacers and their future.

#2. Sacramento Kings

Another team where Wilson would be a good fit is the Sacramento Kings. He would give Sacramento another high-upside wing who can pair with Keegan Murray to form an intriguing forward tandem. His athleticism and two-way potential would give the Kings a real long-term piece that they use to build the next iteration of Sacramento basketball. Plus, the Kings have been lacking athleticism and defense on the wings, which is something Wilson can provide. For Wilson, the Kings give him a situation where his development can be prioritized above winning. He would certainly get plenty of playing time to work out his mistakes. He may not get the benefit of playing with other high-level creators, but he would have the opportunity to develop as one himself.

#3. Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards are a good fit for Wilson in the same vein as the Kings. Specifically, Washington is the perfect place for Wilson’s development. He would certainly get a bunch of playing time, especially when the veterans like Khris Middleton leave in the summer. Furthermore, Washington isn’t in a position to contend yet, so Wilson’s overall development will have priority. For Washington, Wilson isn’t exactly what they need. In particular, they need a real long-term first option to be the centerpiece for their rebuild. However, if Washington ends up selecting outside of the top three, Wilson would be a good pick for the sheer upside. His athleticism and defensive potential would fit well next to Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly, forming a highly intriguing defensive frontcourt.

#4. Oklahoma City Thunder (via Los Angeles Clippers)

As for the Oklahoma City Thunder, there are positives and negatives to the pairing. The Thunder certainly has the developmental personnel who can work with Wilson as he develops. Plus, Wilson will have the benefit of playing next to and learning from many talented players. Out on the court, Wilson would get to feast on plenty of great looks from creators like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams. The defensive personnel that the Thunder has would help him transition more easily into the NBA. The team itself will benefit from getting a bigger wing who has excellent athleticism and defensive potential. The struggles with Wilson going to Oklahoma City is that the team already has a ton of depth. It would be difficult to find minutes for him in the rotation. Furthermore, Wilson will need more playing time to develop, given how raw he is currently.

#5. Atlanta Hawks (via New Orleans Pelicans)

Rounding out this ranking is the Atlanta Hawks, and they are certainly the worst fit among the teams. To be fair, they can always use more athleticism and defense on the wings for a Trae Young-led team. However, several issues arise with Wilson going to the Hawks. For one, the Hawks already have a plethora of big wings on the roster. It wouldn’t be easy to fit Wilson into their rotation, considering several forwards would be ahead of him. Secondly, Wilson’s current skill set is redundant on the roster as players like Asa Newell and Mouhamed Gueye share similar skills to his.
