Mystics drop Game 2 on a three-game road trip.

The Washington Mystics lost to the Dallas Wings on Saturday night, 79-71.

With the way the Mystics have played lately, and the absence of the No. 1 draft pick, Paige Bueckers, for the Wings, it was expected perhaps that the Mystics would have their way in this one.

Mystics got off to a very slow start, getting down 28-9, after the first quarter. The Mystics were missing a lot of shots that they normally make but they also were struggling to get stops against the Wings. The Wings were intentionally starting the game hunting for mismatches to create open looks.

Wings were able to stretch their lead to as much as 24, before the Mystics slowly started chipping away in the 2nd quarter. Washington got within 14 at the half on the strength of better shooting and some adjustments to their lineup to avoid mismatches.

Mystics were able to get within 2 points in the 3rd quarter, but this game was decided in the 4th quarter where the Mystics just ran out of gas. 15 points in the 4th quarter just wasn’t enough to get it done for a team that spent the whole game trying to climb out of a deficit. Mystics finished the night just shooting 34 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3. Just a miserable night offensively, that they could not figure out.

The key stat for the night was bench points. Dallas was able to outscore the Mystics 36-5 in that area.

As far as individual performances, Sonia Citron led the team with 22 points on the evening. Washington will now set their sights on heading to Minnesota to face the Lynx in a pre-4th of July showdown, on July 3rd.
