The practice is part of a commemoration of the NBA’s 75th season as well as a look back at the franchise’s Baltimore roots.
The Washington Wizards will be practicing today at 11:30 a.m. ET at Hill Field House, which is inside the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md. The team will have an open practice for the public, so MSU students, faculty, staff and other fans can attend the event.
According to Edward Lee (no relation to me) of The Baltimore Sun, Morgan State University and Monumental Basketball began started making arrangements on Sept. 16, when Monumental Vice President of Player Development John Thompson III reached out to Dr. Edward Scott, MSU’s athletic director.
Baltimore holds a special place in Wizards franchise history. The then-Baltimore Bullets played there from 1963-73. It is also the home of head coach Wes Unseld, Jr., franchise great Wes Unseld. And forward Isaiah Todd also lived here as a child.
Lee’s article also pointed out that the Wizards are the only NBA team holding a practice at a Historically Black College and University, which MSU is, this season. It is also the first time the Wizards have held a practice at an HBCU.
