Two Wizards Rookies Selected to All-Rookie Teams

May 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The 2024-25 First and Second All-Rookie Teams were just announced on Tuesday, May 20. Two sets of five rookies represent the brightest of the draft class, and two Wizards rookies made those lists. Alex Sarr was selected for the first team, and Bub Carrington was chosen for the second team. Not only is this a monumental achievement for these two rising sophomores, but also a huge step in the right direction in Washington.

Two Wizard Rookies Selected to All-Rookie Teams

Team History

This marks the first time since the 2019-20 season that the Wizards have had a rookie selected to the All-Rookie Team, when Rui Hachimura earned a second-team selection. Since the turn of the century, Washington had only five rookies selected for either rookie squad prior to this season. Sarr and Carringtom also mark the 23rd and 24th All-Rookie selections in the Wizards franchise history.

Alex Sarr

Sarr is the first Washington rookie since Bradley Beal to be selected to the first team. He was expected to make this list, especially after pushing his name back into the Rookie of the Year race towards the end of the season. Sarr’s achievements speak volumes to the type of player Washington can expect him to become, hopefully in the near future.

Sarr is the youngest center in NBA history to hit 100 three-pointers made. He finished second among rookies and eighth in the league for blocks per game (1.5). He was also the only rookie this season to average at least ten points, six rebounds, and a block per game. Sarr’s play picked up after the All-Star game, and fans are hopeful to see even more improvement headed into his sophomore season.

He finished with 54 first team votes and 42 second team votes amongst the 100 voters.

Bub Carrington

Carrington only had three first team votes, but had 47 votes for the second team. While Carrington’s averages don’t jump out at you, he certainly had a resume for a second team selection.

He played all 82 games and led rookies in minutes per game (30). Carrington finished second among rookies in assists with 4.4 a game. He is also the youngest player in franchise history with a 30+ point game. In April, Carrington averaged 17.6 points and 7.1 assists in the seven games during the month.

Carrington will look to further his role on a roster whose future is rather confusing. On one hand, if the Wizards decide to draft a guard, it could push Carrington down the depth chart, and he may lose out on growing the way Sarr can.

Last Word on Wizards’ All-Rookies

These are two young prospects, and the Wizards should be thrilled to have drafted both of them. With their futures looking bright, the front office will need to draft carefully with their three 2025 picks to ensure they build a cohesive unit. Sarr and Carrington both should look to build off their strong rookie campaigns. Look out for these two to make big sophomore splashes come next season.
