WASHINGTON — The Washington Wizards sit 14th in the Eastern Conference, exactly where they want to be. Despite their 11 wins, there is plenty to be hopeful about in Washington. They are looking beyond the doom and gloom of this season. They are already planning for summer. The Wizards want to execute a masterclass that pairs Alex Sarr and Walker Kessler. RealGM sources reported this plan.
Wizards Have Plans To Pair Alex Sarr With Double-Double Behemoth
Trade Season Signals Long-Term Vision

Washington has stayed active this trade season. The team acquired Trae Young for Corey Kispert and CJ McCollum. That trade stands as the only deal in the NBA so far. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future has held the league in limbo.
Trae has yet to make his debut for Washington. He is dealing with a sprained right knee and bruised quadriceps. He will not feature much this season. The Wizards do not want him to jeopardize their tank. That approach shows the franchise’s foresight.
Targeting Walker Kessler
That foresight by the Wizards now points toward Walker Kessler. Kessler is out for the season after shoulder surgery. He will become a restricted free agent this summer. The Wizards plan to pursue him in the offseason.
Kessler averaged 14 points, about 11 rebounds, and two blocks in five games this season. He averaged an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double last season. That was his first full season as a starter. He also led the league in offensive rebounds.
A Supersized Frontcourt Vision
By pairing Sarr and Kessler, the Wizards would form a supersized frontcourt. That duo will rival the best in the NBA. Both players are under 25. Both already rank among the league’s best shot blockers.
If the recently acquired Young picks up his player option, or opts out and re-signs, the Wizards could have $50 million in cap space. That amount allows them to sign a free agent to a 30 percent max contract. They have the means to steal Kessler from Utah. The Jazz could still retain him. They would likely have to pay more than they prefer.
