Eight Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame

The Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2025 has been announced. On Tuesday afternoon, eight individuals were announced to have received the 75% of votes needed to be inducted into hockey immortality. Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton, Duncan Keith, Alexander Mogilny, Jennifer Botterill, Brianna Decker, Jack Parker, and Daniele Sauvageau will join the Hockey Hall of Fame on November 10th. Today, we celebrate their hockey careers.

Candidates have to receive at least 75% of the vote from the selection committee to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Only eight can be inducted, so there are some players sitting outside the Hall who are still waiting for their moment.

Zdeno Chara

Chara’s NHL career started in 1997. 25 seasons later, Chara retired in 2022 with no questions remaining as to whether or not he was destined for the Hall of Fame. All that was left to do was wait.

Chara played for the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals. The defenceman scored 209 goals and added 471 assists for a total of 680 points in 1,680 games. Chara’s games played is the most played by a defenceman and third among all players. Furthermore, Chara won the Norris Trophy for the 2008-09 season. Chara was a finalist for the award on six other occasions.

He won the Stanley Cup in 2011 with the Bruins and helped them reach the Final two more times.

Joe Thornton

“Grandpa Joe” scored 430 goals and recorded 1,109 assists in 1,714 games with the Bruins, San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. He’s one of 16 players to have at least 1,500 points and is sixth in regular-season games played. In 2005-06, he won the Hart Trophy voted as the league’s most valuable player and the Art Ross Trophy as its leading scorer with 125 points.

In 2016, Thornton helped the Sharks reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history. Thornton is a beloved part of the Sharks franchise history. Furthermore, he a fan-favourite, even in retirement.

Internationally, Thornton won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the World Cup of Hockey in 2004 and 2016, and the 1997 IIHF World Junior Championship. All of which were with Team Canada.

Duncan Keith

Keith is one of the most iconic players to wear the sweater #2. Keith was a key member of the Chicago Blackhawk dynasty who won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015. Furthermore, Keith won the Conn Smythe Trophy for the most valuable player of the 2015 playoffs. Keith also won gold with Team Canada in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and 2014 Sochi Olympics.

In his career, Keith scored 106 goals and added 540 assists in 1,256 regular-season games. Furthermore, Keith scored 19 goals and recorded 72 assists in 151 playoff games.

Keith retired as a two-time Norris Trophy winner. In addition, Keith was voted as one of the NHL’s Greatest Players in 2017 as the NHL celebrated it’s centennial.

Alexander Mogilny

Mogilny became the first player from the Soviet Union to defect for the purpose of playing in the NHL when he debuted with the Buffalo Sabres in 1989. He scored 473 goals and added 559 assists in 990 games in his career. Mogilny scored a career-high 76 goals for Buffalo in 1992-93. He won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1999-00 and gold with the Soviet Union at the 1988 Calgary Olympics and the 1989 World Championship.

Jennifer Botterill

Botterill is a three-time Olympic gold medal winner with Team Canada, doing so in 2002, 2006 , and 2010. Furthermore, she also won gold five times at the IIHF Women’s World Championship and was the World Championship MVP in 2001 and 2004. In addition, she scored 65 goals and added 109 assists for a total of 174 points for a total of 174 points Canada’s women’s team.

Brianna Decker

Decker scored 81 goals and added 89 assists in 147 games with the United States’s women’s team. In addition, she helped win gold at the 2018 Olympics. She also won six gold medals with the U.S. at the Women’s World Championships. She is a member of the U.S. Women’s Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jack Parker

Parker’s coaching career began in 1968 after graduating from Boston University. He returned as an assistant one year later and was named coach in 1973. His teams won three NCAA titles while appearing in 24 NCAA tournaments. He won 897 games, all at Boston. Parker is a true legend of college hockey and of Boston College.

Daniele Sauvageau

Sauvageau has participated in seven Olympic games as a women’s hockey coach, general manager and coaching consultant with Team Canada. She led the team to gold at the 2002 Olympics, becoming the country’s first hockey coach of an Olympic team to win gold in 50 years.

History Made Once Again

We have our 2025 Stanley Cup Champions. Now, we have our Hall of Fame Class of 2025. They will join the other legends of hockey. As time goes on, they will be joined by other legends, both of hockey’s past and the stars of today.

Today is a celebration of hockey. A celebration of the past, present, and future.
