A look at just another goal-scoring achievement well within reach for #8
2 – Number of days remaining until the start of the Capitals’ 2021-22 season. But it’s also…
…the number of goals needed for Alex Ovechkin to move into sole possession of fifth place all-time on the goal-scoring leaderboard. Ovechkin currently sits at 730 career goals, one behind the current fifth-place scorer, Marcel Dionne.
Depending on his health and ability to keep up his scoring pace from previous seasons, there’s a good chance Ovechkin could also knock down #4 and #3 on that list by the end of 2021-22. He is just 11 goals behind Brett Hull in fourth place, and 36 behind Jaromir Jagr in third.
And of course, for those keeping track (who, us?)… he enters this season 164 goals shy of tying Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record.
