2027 forward Donovan Davis talks summer with Team Herro, recruitment

KANSAS CITY, KS — Class of 2027 four-star forward Donovan Davis is a part of the best Division D E16 team on the Nike EYBL circuit this season, Team Herro. Davis has averaged 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds so far, leading his team to a 7-1 record. He’s provided one of the most efficient games of the spring, scoring 24 points and collecting four rebounds while shooting a remarkable 11-of-13 from the field.

At 6-foot-7, 200-pounds, Davis is a versatile and athletic wing. He can score consistently at all three levels.

“I can play inside, but I can also play outside,” Davis told ZAGSBLOG. “I got a lot of moves that I can use to get to the rim and just finish, either that’s like a high-low, off the dribble or a post-up. Then I can also get out on the perimeter and just rip and go.”

As a member of the class of 2027 and a rising junior, Davis is focused on improving his skillset before his recruitment begins to ramp up.

“I think outside stuff,” Davis said of what he’s improving. “Perimeter shooting, 3-pointers. I always work on that all the time, just trying to get better and better, just trying to shoot more of those for the games. So I think if I can get better at that, I think that will really help me,”

On the recruitment front, Davis has already taken visits to Iowa State, Marquette and Wisconsin. Those three schools, plus Cal, have offered.

Here’s his breakdown of his offers:

Wisconsin:  “I mean, they’ve been playing different basketball than they have in normal years. A little fast-paced basketball. It was really fun to watch. Just going down there for game day visits and watching them. I went down there for the Arizona game so it was a pretty good game to watch. It was really fun watching them play, moving the ball and getting to the basket.”

Iowa State: “They’re a really good basketball team. They play really good defense. I take defense as a priority. They also have a really good community. I went down there for the Kansas game, when they beat Kansas and the stadium was just livid. It was a lot of cheers and big pops. You can really tell that they are showing support for Iowa State.”

Marquette: “They’re always calling me and just building our relationship. I also went down there a couple times. I’ve gone down there for a game day when they played UConn. They lost the game, but still they’re a pretty good program. They had me go down for practice a couple times.”

California: “I talked to them. They told that they like how I play and just my game all-around and they just like how I play.”

Davis is looking for a coaching staff that will instill trust in him and his game right away and a culture that is built on family and togetherness.

The four-star is ranked the No. 41 overall player in the class of 2027 by 247Sports.
