2027 forward Donovan Davis talks Wisconsin, Iowa State visits

As an offensively unique 6-foot-8, 220-pound four man with a growing defensive aptitude with his ability to guard multiple positions, Class of 2027 Freedom HS (WI) product Donovan Davis recently wrapped up back to back visits to Iowa State and Wisconsin.

After visiting Wisconsin and attending the Badgers’ 89-73 loss to No.5 Purdue, Davis said the message the coaching staff is illustrating is a rather simple one.

They want the versatile big to stay home and play a significant role as a likely 4-3.

“(Head) Coach (Greg) Gard and coach (Sharif) Chambliss, they are basically emphasizing the hometown aspect,” said Davis, who is averaging 24 points and 13 rebounds at Freedom thus far.

“The opportunity is there to possibly play right away as a freshman and make an impact. Just going in and being a four man and even being a wing in their continuous ball screen offense. Also, I would have the opportunity to make an impact defensively.”

While Purdue wound up with the win, Davis was impressed with the play of veteran guard Nick Boyd (who scored 24 points) and the atmosphere in Madison, Wisc.

“It was a really good place to watch a game,” Davis said.

The Team Herro recruit, who raised his profile this summer, is currently hearing from Iowa State, Wisconsin, Marquette, Nebraska, and Iowa the most.

One day prior to his Wisconsin visit, Davis visited Iowa State.

He was impressed with the play of another Wisconsin native, Milan Momcilovic, who scorched the nets to the tune of 8-for–10 from 3-point range in a 26-point performance, en route to a thorough 80-59 trouncing of West Virginia.

“The students weren’t back from break yet but it was still a pretty good atmosphere,” Davis said.

“Justin Jefferson had a triple double (10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists), which was really cool to see. It was great to be there and talk to Coach TJ (Otzelberger) and (assistant) Coach JR (Blount).“

Davis said he has no concrete timetable on his decision or projected time when he aims to make a commitment.

He is focused on finding the best fit for his game as a multi-positional big with a consistent presence on the glass. In the end, he said he will discuss the best option with his parents before arriving at a decision.

As a junior this season, Davis has transformed into one of the most prolific scorers in the Midwest.

He has shot more 3-pointers this season and developed a knack for 18-20 foot jumpers and balanced his inside-outside game with a consistent fade-away.
