2027 guard discusses recruitment

December 11, 2025 by Zags Blog

BY ZACH SMART

After establishing himself as one of the best shooters with Garner Road on the hyper competitive 3SSB circuit this summer, Class of 2027 Ambassador Christian School (NC) guard RJ Moore has shown out with his thorough scoring repertoire.

Moore generated buzz and had highlights circulating the internet following a 35-point, 13-rebound, and five assists showing during a wire to wire 81-45 throttling of Hargrave Military Academy (VA) this past week.

Splashing deep 3-pointers, evoking space creation with his stepback and getting defenders to bite on his fakes, the polish and versatility of Moore’s skill set was evident in the video.

Developing and devoting focus to the downhill game has been instrumental in the growth of Moore. He’s blossomed into a legitimate offensive hub and play-maker for Ambassador Christian, which increased its strength of schedule considerably this season.

“I feel like I can really attack the rim more and get to the free throw line,” said Moore, who is the son of former UConn guard (and national champion as a player and an assistant coach with the Huskies) Ricky Moore.

The 6-foot-7 Moore has been hearing from a slew of high majors, with his performance as a deadeye shooter bolstering his Division-I stock over the summer.

“I’m hearing from Utah, Virginia, Georgetown, Tennessee and LSU the most right now.”

Moore visited Tennessee in the fall. He was impressed with the culture of the program and the emphasis on player development.

On Wednesday, the North Carolina native broke down his feelings on several of the programs recruiting him:

Utah: “I feel good about Utah. I’ve watched them multiple times on TV and I really like the way they play. Coach Chill (Raphael Chillious) is recruiting me and he texts me probably about every day.

Virginia: “They are a a very good program. They are ranked right now and have been playing really good basketball. I feel like I fit their system with the way I can shoot the ball.”

Georgetown: (Associate HC) Coach (Jeff) Battle texts me about every week. I really like how they are flipping the program around. Coach (Ed) Cooley allows his guards to play and I really like what he’s doing over there.”

Oklahoma State: “I talk to (assisstant) coach (Dana) Valentine at Oklahoma State. I think they’re doing the same thing– flipping the program around. They’ve had early success this year. I like how their guards play. The shots they are comfortable with taking and their style really aligns with my game a lot.”
