Aden Holloway to transfer from Auburn to rival school Alabama

April 21, 2024 by Zags Blog

By SAM LANCE

The portal era has brought forth another interesting paradigm: transferring to a rival school. Former Auburn guard Aden Holloway is doing exactly that with his commitment to Nate Oats and Alabama on Saturday.

Multiple media outlets have reported Holloway’s commitment, but Holloway has not posted the information to his social media.

Holloway, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard from Charlotte (NC), is a former five-star recruit and averaged 7.3 points and 2.7 assists in 20.2 minutes per game as a true freshman under Bruce Pearl. He is ranked the No. 6 player in the transfer portal per Evan Miya and the No. 29 transfer by 247Sports.

As a high school prospect, Holloway was named a McDonald’s All-American and graduated from Prolific Prep (CA). Holloway has dual U.S.-Canadian citizenship with his mother, Robin, born in Calgary. Athletics run well in his family, with his grandfather, Dave Raimey playing college football at Michigan. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1963 and is in the Canadian Football League (CFL) Hall of Fame.

Alabama now has three portal commits with Holloway, USF transfer guard Chris Youngblood and Pepperdine transfer guard Houston Mallette joining the 24-25 roster. Oats has gone right to work in the portal after bringing the Crimson Tide to their first ever Final Four. Several players including power forwards Nick Pringle and Sam Walters, shooting guards Davin Cosby and Rylan Griffen and small forward Davin Cosby have transferred out.
