As National Signing Day kicks off Wednesday, BYU has landed one of its top targets in the 2022 class as four-star forward Collin Chandler announced his commitment in an Instagram Live with ESPN’s Paul Biancardi.
The 6-foot-4, 170-pound small forward from Farmington (UT) and the Utah Prospects AAU Program, chose BYU over Arizona, Oregon, Stanford, Utah and Gonzaga. He took his official visit to BYU from October 22-24.
“Obviously, he’s very athletic, but probably one of the best features of Collin is his mind,” Utah Prospects coach Lynn Lloyd said. Once he put his shoes on, he was locked and loaded and committed to getting better everyday.
“He’s a really smart kid and never had a bad practice. He was just ready to play every day we played. I think that will benefit him.”
Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 6 combo guard and No. 29 overall prospect in the class of 2022, Chandler is BYU’s highest-rated recruit in the modern recruiting era.
“I wish I had a team full of Collin’s because he was ready to practice every single day, never took a play off, communicated really, really well on the floor, which was something we really stressed,” Lloyd said. “He’s a great kid. He’s going to be a really, really good college player.”
Chandler earned 2021 First-Team All-Circuit this summer after his performance on the adidas 3SSB circuit, averaging 14.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
“He needs to work on his defense, but I will say he had a good commitment to that this summer,” Lloyd said. “He’s long, he’s athletic, he’s never really had to play defense and we really challenged him with that this summer. He did a much, much better job with that.”
