Calvary’s Daughtry Talks Recruiting

January 30, 2026 by Zags Blog

BY ZACH SMART

As a 6-foot-1, Class of 2027 guard with an advanced three level scoring repertoire and a proven ability to take over games, Calvary Christian (FL)’s Cayden Daughtry has blossomed with his insatiable desire for winning.

His IQ and constantly reading games and studying how teams play has helped spark his national ascension, as Daughtry is currently averaging 28 PPG both for Calvary Christian and with the Fear of God in the OTE League.

With this breakout junior season, Daughtry continues to hear from a handful of high profile, high major programs throughout the country.

“I’m pretty much wide open in my recruitment right now,” Daughtry.

“I am probably going to take most of my visits after the season and down the road, but whichever school wants me for a visit I will likely consider. I am enjoying the process. I have been hearing from Iowa, Michigan, Florida State, Miami, and USC mainly right now.”

Daughtry was recently named MVP of the 41st Bass Pro Tournament of Champions, as Calvary won it with a convincing 78-64 victory over Paul VI.

Daughtry broke down his current recruitment with ZAGSBLOG this week:

On Iowa

“They’re just telling me how Bennet Stirtz is playing right now, they think I can do something similar if I go there. He is averaging 18 and 5 now. Obviously there’s a good fan base there. They have a good campus and there is a lot to like about the program.”

Michigan

“I’m feeling really good about them. Just seeing how Eliot Cadeau is having the year he is having. He’s really averaging a lot of assists. He has had games of double digit assists.

Coach Dusty May, with every team he has, he adjusts really well to the personnel and wins.He has three bigs on the court now and he’s making sure he plays through them. He does what he has to do with his personell to win.”

Miami

“I think they just beat Stanford last night. Big win for them. I’m just talking to (associate) coach (Erik) Pastrana about what they are trying to build over there. They are definitely trying to build a team that emphasizes guards. (Head) Coach Jai Lucas, he tells me he loves his little guards.”

Florida State

“Pretty much their message is how bad they want me to be there. How badly they want me to play like I am playing now for them eventually.

They are basically telling me they will let me play my game and shoot 3s. That I would have a green light.

(Assistant) Coach Michael Fly is the main guy recruiting me, but (Head Coach) Luke Loucks is talking to me as well. I’ve been talking to the head coach since the beginning of my junior year. I had an offer from them when Leonard Hamilton was there. Coach Fly saw me during the live period at Calvary and they re-offered me.”

USC

Everyone knows Coach (Eric) Musselman loves his guards and gives them the freedom to play their game. His system has a lot of ball screens. I think I do a really good job on ball screens.

(Assistant) coach Earl Boykins, he came to a couple of my practices. He is telling me the same thing. To come to USC and be the guard that they know I can be. He told me to watch them play, watch their system and see how I can fit. I have been watching all of the programs recruiting me.”
