Carmelo Anthony misses son’s college debut for work: ‘I totally understand. He gotta be on NBC’

The son of NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, Kiyan Anthony, made his debut for Syracuse on Monday, a school his father won a national title with. Unfortunately, his father won’t be as available to attend games as he might want to be as he is making his own debut in the broadcasting space as a member of NBC’s return to NBA coverage.

“I totally understand you know, he gotta be on NBC,” Kiyan Anthony said about his father not attending his first game for the Orange. “He watching right now, I know he see it through the camera and I appreciate him for watching, I’ll see him soon and it’s no worries he’ll be at the next one.”

The 10-time All-Star was certainly watching while at work in the only way a proud father could, with admiration.

“You already know champ, what’s understood don’t need to be spoken on,” Carmelo Anthony said in response to his son’s statement.

Kiyan scored an efficient 15 points off the bench for Syracuse in his debut on 6-10 shooting from the field along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

“Let’s talk about efficiency this is what we want to see if they bring you off the bench go out there and do this and bring something else to your team,” the proud father said from NBC’s studio.

Although the father and son’s new ventures may have stopped them from being together for Kiyan Anthony’s college debut, it certainly won’t be long till the Hall of Famer is spotted sitting courstide cheering on his son and his former team.
