Class of 2026 guard Amare Guerra will take official visit to Merrimack, updates recruitment

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC — Every team at Peach Jam is looking to find advantages over its opponent. For some its factors such as talent, toughness or strategy. But for standout class of 2026 guard Amare Guerra and Team Pro Skills, the difference at Peach Jam was chemistry.

“Honestly, before we even came here, before everything, we were together for like two weeks straight, Guerra said. “Everyone came down to Dallas, everyone put time together, everyone put their pride aside, and we all worked together and built a great bond with each other. I think that’s really carrying into what’s happening now. I know a lot of teams just get together over the weekends and do little things like that, but we all got together for a good amount of time before this and put it together.”

Guerra and his squad made it the the Elite Eight before falling to Expressions Elite. For the tournament, Guerra averaged 5.7 points, 2.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. His performance thus far has earned him interest at the Division I level.

“It’s great,” Guerra said about his summer. “Just got my first offer and everything like that not that long ago. So the summer’s been great. I think me transitioning to this team was a good thing for me. Helped me expand my game more. Helped me win honestly a little more. I mean, we’re doing it right now. So, it’s, it’s been good.”

Guerra comes from a family of hoopers at the college level; his father, Anthony Guerra, and uncle, Andrew Guerra, both played college basketball at the Division II/III levels. Now, Amare is looking to take that next step in his basketball career himself and be the first in the family to play DI. During summer play, Guerra picked up an offer from Merrimack, his first Division I offer. He will be taking a visit to Merrimack on July 28.

“It’s going to be a joy,” Guerra told ZAGSBLOG. “But I’m excited for it and I know coach [Joe] Gallo is as well. So it’s going to be a great opportunity.”

Other schools interested in Guerra include Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Incarnate Word. He’s also hearing from Division II programs, but Guerra’s goal is to make it at the Division I level.

Guerra is hoping to make a decision based on where he has the best basketball fit. He also wants to show coaches he has what it takes to run an offense at the college level.

“l’m just trying to show them what l’ve been doing all year,” Guerra said. “Creating for my team, showing I can run the game, showing I can control the game. I can be a great point guard for your team.”

Guerra is a 5-foot-9 point guard out of Antonian College Prep (Texas). His favorite NBA player is Michael Jordan, his favorite artist is Drake and his favorite hobby outside of basketball is gaming.

He has a 3.8 GPA and is looking at business and entrepreneurship for areas to study in college.
