Las Vegas, NV–As a slick, 6-foot-5 left handed wing who grew up watching and patterning his game around the likes of Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, and Tracy McGrady, you can consider Cameron Holmes a veritable basketball “old soul.”
Now, in an unprecedented current day where multi-year transfers and graduate transfers are among the most prioritized on the recruiting market, the young Class of 2026 talent is garnering plenty of attention from top-shelf programs.
“Arizona, Illinois, North Carolina, and a couple others all went out to see me at (The Border League,” explained Holmes, who is the younger brother of former Dayton star and current NBA forward DaRon Holmes II.
“I’m still just undecided. Everyone is moving at the same pace and doing a great job recruiting me.”
Holmes said he enjoyed his recent visit to the University of Oklahoma, where he got a feel for just how hard teams practice in this phase of the 2025-26 pre-season.
“Coach (Porter) Moser, he’s just telling me how my game would be a good fit for the program,” Holmes said.
“He was basically telling me the role he envisioned for me there. We went over the system of the offense. Really, I got to watch a really good pair of practices.”
Holmes also touched on his recent visit to North Carolina.
“It was good, there is just so much basketball history and legacy there,” said Holmes.
“Basically coach (Hubert) Davis is telling me how much he sees my game fit their style of play and the program. They have a really great team coming for this year, so I am definitely looking forward to seeing them play and excited for their upcoming season.”
Holmes has sustained strong ties with University of Illinois, having developed a longtime relationship with head coach Brad Underwood and associate head coach Orlando Antigua.
Holmes was a revelation at Peach Jam this summer, as he averaged 11.9 points and shot a scalding 47.4 from the floor as a supplemental piece on a star-spangled AZ lineup.
“I really just try to do everything on the court,” Holmes said. “Being aggressive. Being a great defender both off and on the ball. Using my versatility in every way possible.”
