Darryn Peterson shows out in front of 30+ NBA scouts

Lawrence, KS – Kansas’ Darryn Peterson showed out in front of 30+ NBA scouting personnel in the Jayhawks’ win over BYU on Saturday. Prestigious NBA decision-makers Sam Presti (Thunder), Sean Marks (Nets, Brian Wright (Spurs) and Kevin Pritchard (Pacers) were all on hand.

In just 20 minutes of action in No. 14 Kansas’ 90-82 win over No. 13 BYU, Peterson scored 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

“I haven’t seen a scorer that scored as easily in college since Kevin Durant,” ESPN’s Jay Bilas said on the broadcast.

Kansas head coach Bill Self said that Peterson’s quad started cramping, leading to him being held out in the second half.

“It’s just cramps,” Self said. “His quad started cramping, and when that happens it’s hard for him to come out of it. He’s done everything he’s supposed to do. He’s been relentless in the training room.”

Peterson. who was returning from an ankle injury suffered in a win against Colorado, is questionable for Monday’s game against Texas Tech on a short turnaround. Self seemed optimistic about his status but didn’t say anything definite.

After many duels in high school, Peterson is widely believed to have put the No. 1 pick debate to rest, after getting the best of AJ Dybantsa and BYU.

The 6-foot-9 Dybantsa finished with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
