Davis talks Nebraska visit, upcoming visits

February 3, 2026 by Zags Blog

Having established himself as a veritable walking double double with stretch four capabilities, Class of 2027 Freedom HS (WI) forward Donovan Davis is tracking as one of the top overall players in Wisconsin.

On Sunday, Davis kicked off a trio of February visits, taking in Nebraska’s 78-69 loss to no.9 Illinois at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

“It was a pretty good game, a Top-10 national matchup between those two teams,” said Davis, who is averaging 12 boards per game at Freedom this season.

“It was a really good atmosphere. The coaching staff has really been emphasizing their spacing and how that can help my game. They’ve also been a really good defensive team as well. It was a bummer that (Nebraska) lost, but it was a really good game.”

Next weekend, Davis will make the one hour and 45-minute trek to Milwaukee to visit Marquette.

“Marquette is basically telling me I have the opportunity to come in and be able to play right away,” Davis said.

“I would have the opportunity to make an instant impact both offensively and defensively. I would be coming in as a three man or four man. I have been talking a lot with their assistant coach, Neil Berry. I am talking with (head) coach (Shaka) Smart as well. Really their message is that I can come in and play right away. I can potentially be a big player in the Big East.”

After he visits Marquette the weekend on Feb. 7, Davis will visit Iowa State at the tail end of the short month, on Feb. 28.

Now no.7 nationally, Iowa State is sitting at 20-2 overall following a thorough 95-61 throttling of Kansas State on Sunday.

“(Iowa State) is really known for their defense, and that is an aspect of my game which I really take a lot of pride in,” Davis explained.

“They’ve also been scoring it in really high numbers lately. They’ve had a winning culture under coach (TJ) Otzelberger, so it has been really just fun to watch.”
