Felipe Quinones is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard originally from Puerto Rico, but now living in Florida and attending IMG Academy. Quinones opened his EYBL season in Mesa in late April, playing with the Jet Academy, owned by former NBA player and current TNT analyst Kenny “The Jet” Smith. Quinones averaged 11 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game in two appearances in Mesa.
Quinones just wrapped up his junior season at the prestigious IMG Academy and talked about what he learned about himself this season.
“I just need to be more patient and get more involved,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “I feel like I improved the most on defense, but I’m still trying to get better every day.”
At 6-foot-4, Quinones is a physical and shifty guard and describes himself as a do-it-all player.
“I can pass, I can shoot but defensively I think I can guard anybody in the country,” Quinones said.
The four-star has taken just one visit throughout his recruitment, an unofficial to UCF. He said he’s more focused on the summer, expanding his game and helping his team make Peach Jam.
Quinones has accumulated a handful of offers over the past few years and also provided ZAGSBLOG with an update on his recruitment:
Mississippi State: “I’ve talked to Coach (Patrice) Days. He’s a great guy and we’ve been catching up a lot and whenever we see each other.”
UCF: “Coach (Mamadou N’Diaye). I had a high school coach that coached there so that’s when they first offered me. They keep it real and they’re all real cool people.”
Michigan: “I talked to Coach Dusty (May) when he came down to IMG. He’s a great guy and we’ve seen the success he’s had, so that just shows how good of a coach he is.”
Kansas: “I’ve been talking to Coach Kurtis (Townsend). I met him in Puerto Rico my freshman year and we’ve just stayed in touch.”
Baylor: “The coach that originally offered me is now the FAU coach (John Jakus), but all their other coaches have stayed in contact with me and my family. They have had a lot of success recently and have a great program.”
Purdue: “I’ve talked with Coach (Paul) Lusk. He coached my coach from Puerto Rico and he’s a good communicator and coach to talk with.”
Florida State: “The new coach (Luke Loucks) was the one that offered me. He has great NBA experience and they have some great people.”
Quinones said there is no current timeline for his recruitment.
He credits popular Puerto Rican artist Omar Courtz as the main artist that gets him fired up before big games. In his free time, Quinones spends most of his time with his parents when he isn’t in the gym improving his game.
Quinones is ranked as the No. 35 recruit in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports.
