MESA, AZ — Class of 2027 five-star point guard Cayden Daughtry is playing up this EYBL season with the 17u Florida Rebels squad, but you wouldn’t know he’s younger by watching him play.
Daughtry — the 5-foot-11, 150-pound guard out of Calvary Christian (FL) — was among the top scorers at EYBL Session 1. The five-star averaged 18.3 points, 1.7 assists and 2.0 steals through three games and was the catalyst of Florida’s offense. His best game was a 27-point outing in a loss to Team Thad.
“I’m just excited about playing some of the best of the best in the country,” Daughtry told ZAGSBLOG. “I played 15s last year, and I did what I had to do. So I felt like maybe this is the year I’ll go play up and play 17s.”

Daughtry said he’s a “scrappy” point guard who makes the right play and can score anytime he’s called upon.
“I feel like my best trait is IQ,” Daughtry said. “I’ve had it since a very young age. Just seeing the floor, seeing the game, seeing a great play before it even happens. And what I’m working on is just getting bigger, getting better physically. I’m not really the best looking physical guard. I just got to get better at that and get in the weight room.”
While Daughtry is only 5-foot-11 right now, he expects to grow. His father, Chivalrik Daughtry is about 6-foot-5, maybe even 6-foot-6. That’s who Daughtry got his athletic ability from, as he played football. And he isn’t the only football player in the Daughtry family. The five-star guard’s cousin is 14-year NFL veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin.
On the recruitment front, Daughtry has four offers from Arizona State, Florida State, Mississippi State and West Virginia. He broke down those programs to ZAGSBLOG:
Arizona State: “They had a very disappointing year I would say, but I feel like next year they’ll be better and the year after that they’ll be even better. Especially with transfers.” Assistant coach Yusuf Ali is the main coach in contact.
Florida State: “They got a new coach now. It’s a new program. They are going to start building up from there, so it would be cool to go in there and build the culture.”
Mississippi State: “I like how they play physical and they let their guards rock out a little bit. Mainly, like I just said, they play physical. They play well defensively, offensively, they grab boards. They do everything. They do all the little things.”
West Virginia: “That’s a new one for me. They got snubbed in March Madness, I feel like. Everybody feels like that. Every year they’re going to get better and better. Once again, it’s another program that lost their head coach. So you just got to build the culture and they’ll get better from there.”
Daughtry hasn’t taken any unofficial visits and said he won’t be taking those during his recruitment process. He’ll wait until he can take officials starting June 15. When he starts going on visits, Daughtry wants a school with a good development plan.
“Any school that gives me the best chance to make it to the next level,” Daughtry said. “How are they going to get me ready for the level I’m at in college and the level I want to go to, which is the league? And not just play at the next level. Exceed everyone’s expectations.”
Daughtry is ranked the No. 27 overall prospect in the class of 2027 by 247Sports. His favorite NBA player is Allen Iverson. The point guard doesn’t really have any hobbies.
It’s just basketball, basketball, basketball,” Daughtry said. “I can put that stuff aside and just stay focused until those hobbies come later. The fun can come later. Right now it’s just all basketball.”
