COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — The summer brings along many opportunities and exciting developments for high-level basketball prospects. But for four-star class of 2026 prospect Amir Jenkins, there is only one thing on his mind: winning.
“I always want to win,” Jenkins told ZAGSBLOG. “I feel like I’m a winner. So I just want to win a championship, a 3SSB championship. I just want to win every game to be honest. I just want to be undefeated. And for my personal goals, I would say just keep developing. Keep getting better, show college coaches why I’m one of the best point guards in the country.”
So far, Jenkins’ team, the Boston Amateur Basketball Club, has done nothing but win. They boast a perfect 8-0 record in 3SSB competition and Jenkins has been a big contributor to that, averaging 14.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game at the point.
“I want to show [coaches] that I can play through contact, that I am a strong individual,” Jenkins said. “I can hit open shots consistently, hit threes. Just show that I’m a vocal leader and that I can defend very well for my position.”
The 6-foot-2 point guard out of Worcester Academy sees himself as a player with a style more reminiscent of the past.
“Kind of like old school, new school,” Jenkins said. “I can play with my back to the basket a little bit. I can break defenders down. So I just say old school, new school.”
Although Jenkins is a skilled point guard offensively, he hangs his hat on the other side of the ball just as much.
“When I was younger, I wasn’t really a skilled offensive player,” he said. “So I’d just guard the best players and just play defense. So I got to stay in front of the ball. Before every workout, one of our stretches is to do defensive slides. So I’d just say I really try to focus on defense if it’s not going my way one offense.”
Jenkins’ two-way prowess has him receiving a multitude of offers at the next level. He has received offers from Albany, Boston College, George Washington, Providence, SLU, San Diego and St. Bonaventure. He plans to visit Iowa State in June and said he had coaches from Pitt, Creighton, Michigan, SLU, and VCU come in to watch him at 3SSB.
Specifically, Iowa State head coach TJ Otzelberger, Pitt head coach Jeff Capel and VCU head coach Phil Martelli Jr. caught a game courtside.
Here’s how Jenkins broke down his recruiting process:
Iowa State: “They seem like good people after talking with them. I talked to like two or three of their coaches. They sound like good people, sound like a family environment over there. So I just want to see what it’s like. The training facility looks nice, it’s new. So I just want to see what it’s like.” He has mostly been in contact with Coach Nate Schmidt.
SLU: “I’ve talked to Coach Antone [Gray]. That’s my guy. I actually think I’m going to plan a visit there too. They’re great people. I’ve talked to the head coach [Josh Schertz], the assistant coach. They seem like great people. They text me consistently, so it’s good.”
Providence: “They’re in contact with me pretty often. I have took a visit there, unofficial there. I like Kim English. He’s a good guy and I’ve had a few conversations with him. I also talk to coach Corey Wright Jr. He’s a great guy, too.”
The four-star point guard has picked up offers from Creighton, Maryland, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech and Xavier since the conclusion of 3SSB Session 2.
Jenkins’ primary concern in his search for a school is a focus on a welcoming environment.
“I just want it to feel like home,” he said. “A coach that’s always going to be confident with his players, never bringing them down. I’m very coachable, so a little yelling at me isn’t going to bring my confidence down, but I’m just saying to like keep it family. Keep the confidence up of your players.”
Jenkins is the No. 99 ranked player in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports. His favorite NBA player is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the hardest player he’s had to guard is Darryn Peterson and his No. 1 hobby outside of basketball is making Tik Tok content.
