Four-star 2027 point guard Jaxson Davis drawing major interest after standout Meanstreets summer

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Part of the best backcourt at the EYBL 16u level, class of 2027 point guard Jaxson Davis is becoming a household name after his play for Meanstreets this summer. With electrifying speed, Davis, the 6-foot-1 guard out of Warren Township (IL), complemented the slower-paced, top-20 prospect Davion Thompson perfectly. The two created quite the guard duo that ultimately led Meanstreets to the quarterfinals of Peach Jam.

In the quarterfinal game against Indy Heat, the eventual 16u champion, Davis scored what looked to be the game-winning bucket on a fall-away jump shot. However, Indy Heat banked in a 3-pointer after advancing the ball with 1.2 seconds remaining to win the game, 76-75.

Even with the heartbreak, Davis was a standout all summer long and can’t be displeased with his performance. Across 18 games, the point guard averaged 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 46.8% from the field and 53-of-120 (44.2%) from 3-point range. He ranked No. 1 in assists per game (6.7), No. 7 in efficiency and No. 9 in performance index rating during the EYBL regular season and was among the top playmakers across all EYBL age groups.

“My recruiting is really picking up right now, a lot of schools contacting me,” Davis said at Peach. “I’ve been shooting the ball at a high level this spring/summer, and I feel like that’s what’s getting me looks. And playing the point guard position too.”

Davis added he can see the floor at a high level and make shots from the outside. He’s working on becoming more of a defensive stopper since he’ll have to continue guarding some of the best guards in the country moving forward in his career.

The point guard’s father, Brian, played football at the University of Illinois. That’s the sport his younger brother, a rising sophomore, plays. Davis is looking to be the first Division I hooper in the family, and with the schools lining up, it’s looking like it’ll happen.

Currently, Davis has offers from Arizona State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, Toledo and Western Illinois. He’s also heard from BYU, Louisville Michigan State, Oklahoma, UCLA, Virginia Tech others with the contact period open. Early on, Davis said schools like Purdue, Marquette and Northwestern have been heavy on him, creating a solid rapport.

He broke down those three programs to ZAGSBLOG:

Purdue: “They win every year. Their point guard is amazing, Braden Smith. And I feel like they see similarities in me that he has, and that’s just great to say because he’s in the running for national player of the year and Purdue potentially No. 1 team in the country. So it’s just amazing that they’ve been recruiting me.”

Marquette: “They really build that relationship. I’ve been up there multiple times. I’ve been around some of the guys. I know the whole coaching staff, every single coach. It’s like a family over there, so [Shaka Smart] really prioritizes relationships.”

Northwestern: “Close to home, in my state. They are sending me letters everyday. Again, building that relationship with me to feel like home. I feel comfortable around Northwestern.”

Davis has been on the campuses of all three schools above, plus Illinois and Indiana so far. He hasn’t been in touch with the new staff with Darian DeVries.

The point guard is ranked the No. 65 overall prospect in the class of 2027 by 247Sports. He won the 2025 Illinois Mr. Basketball award and is the first-ever sophomore to win it since it started 45 years ago. He also won Gatorade POTY in Illinois after leading Warren to the state title game.

“He’s probably the most underrated guard in the country in my opinion,” Meanstreets coach Jerel McNeal told ZAGSBLOG. “Throwback pure point guard who also has the ability to fill it up and take over a game. Great feel for the game and wisdom beyond his years. He’s a true extension of the coach on the floor. I’m excited to get him for the last year, but he’s going to make some lucky college coach even more happy for years to come. He is only going to get better!”
