The summer AAU season is still young, but that has not stopped four-star class of 2026 prospect Jordan Skyers from building a strong bond with his NY Renaissance teammates already.
“I think it’s going great,” Skyers told ZAGSBLOG. “I feel like as a team we just love to win, and all just playing together really. Like, for a group of guys that have just been playing together for almost two months, we gel together a lot better than the guys that been together for a year, and that’s a surprise to me… It’s a great feeling, and there’s a great group of guys over here.”
Skyers has been a part of a dominant run for his team, NY Rens, so far this summer. He’s averaged 9.9 points, 4.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game this season as his team stormed to a 10-1 start.
“I gotta give credit to coach Oz [Cross],” Skyers said. “The things he does for us, just not even like on the court, we practice a lot. Four or five times a week, some teams just practice on the weekends. The more we practice, the more we just gel together, the more we just have fun together off the court and on the court it’s gonna be the same.”
All that preparation has paid off for the 6-foot-2 guard’s recruitment process. Skyers has offers from Fairfield, La Salle, Mississippi State, Rhode Island and Sacred Heart. He had Baylor, UCLA, UCF, Fairfield, La Salle, Seton Hall, Louisville, Indiana and Wake Forest out to see him during during the high school season.
Last September, Skyers took an official visit to Rhode Island, a school he says is still on his radar.
“It was a great experience,” he said of Rhode Island. “It was something I never even dreamed about doing at the end of the day. I’m just a kid who likes to play basketball. That’s the thing about me, I just love to play basketball to win. So, taking that visit, it’s just a dream come true. Like having my dad be there with me, taking pictures with me. The dinners that we had with the coaches and then, even after my visit is over, we sat down, had a meeting about how they wanted me to play, my role over there. So it was great. And then the school itself was a great school. I love the group of guys that they put together on that team. I got to gel with them, even though I don’t even know some of those guys. Those guys are very welcoming to me and to hang out with them to talk with them was great. Even the coach’s wive’s were so nice to me. It was a great time over there at Rhode Island.”
Skyers plans on scheduling more visits in the coming months. Here is how Skyers broke down the rest of his recruitment so far:
Baylor: “I’m just now getting to know the coach. We’re about to start a good relationship, hopefully, because you know, I love Texas. I love anywhere in Texas, so they they know that and they know that my connection with Texas. They know I’m going to love it over there.”
La Salle: “I was just talking to the coach today. He loves my game, especially because I’m from New York so they understand the dog I have in me. So they understand that no matter what, l’m going to play through it and play tough.”
Fairfield: “The coach was very nice to me. I like the way he coaches. He knows my background. He recruits people from my background. The guard he was talking about was the guard he recruited, and then the one thing like about Fairfield, they were talking about how they let their freshman play through their mistakes. That’s one thing that I always have a hard time doing, especially with a coach. I love that I have to make that great relationship with my coach. With Coach Oz, we made a great relationship after session II. We locked in perfectly. Making sure we’re both on the same page, and I saw me and Fairfield we were trying to be on the same page. He was telling me he let his guards play through the mistakes, and he plays through his freshman guards. He was telling me he brought in a freshman guard to play and start, and they play through him. So that was a great push that I love, and Fairfields got a nice guy.
Skyer’s focus is on finding a team that can complement him well on the basketball court.
“I want to be able to sit there and have long talks, not even just about basketball, period, about anything in life,” Skyers said. “That’s my number one focus, just me and my coach and my team. I’m always the leader. That’s one thing that I’ve been focused on this whole year, especially during school, but I’ve been trying to be a leader and it’s showing this summer.”
Skyers is the No. 135-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports and the No. 23 ranked point guard on ESPN. His favorite NBA player is Devin Booker and his favorite hobby outside of basketball is playing ping pong.
