Georgetown has officially decided to part ways with legendary alum Patrick Ewing after six seasons as head coach.
Ewing was dismissed this afternoon, according to reports. The news comes after the Hoyas completed a 7-25 season with a loss to Villanova in the first round of the Big East Tournament on Wednesday night.
Overall, Ewing was 75-109 after taking over the reins from John Thompson III in 2017. His team went 13-50 over the last two seasons, including an ungodly 2-37 conference record.
Ewing’s best season came in 2020-21, when the Hoyas made a miracle run to the Big East Tournament title and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Georgetown finished just 13-13 that season though, meaning Ewing’s top campaign record-wise was a 19-14 mark in 2018-19, which included an NIT berth.

With Ewing now out, it will be interesting to see which direction Georgetown goes in.
The Hoyas badly need someone who can get the program back on track to where it was in its heyday, but after three straight hires from the John Thompson tree, the program could ultimately decide now is the time to break from its past and go outside the Georgetown family for a new head coach.
