Ed Cooley’s squad will face up to 5 Power Conference teams outside of Big East play

While we still don’t know where Thomas Sorber will be selected in the 2025 NBA Draft, we did receive some big news on Wednesday morning as Georgetown released it’s men’s basketball non-conference schedule for the 2025-26 campaign.

Mark your calendars Hoya Nation! season is just around the corner and the 2025-26 Non-Conference Schedule is out!

Can’t wait to see you this season!

Ed Cooley has put together his most competitive schedule at Georgetown in his third season with the Hoyas that includes as many as five games against Power Conference schools. By comparison Georgetown faced just three a season ago.

The Hoyas will host Clemson for the first time in school history while renewing rivalries with both Maryland and North Carolina on the road. Georgetown will also face two of three from Miami/BYU/Dayton over Thanksgiving break down in the Terry’s Chocolate ESPN Invitational.

BIGGEST GAME

The true prize in the noncon portion of things in 25-26 has to be the rare trip to Chapel Hill on Sunday December 7th to face perennial power North Carolina. The Hoyas lead the all-time series 5-4 but just one of those games – a Georgetown win in the quarterfinals of the 2003 NIT – took place in the Dean Dome. Georgetown has won two straight over the Tar Heels with the last meeting coming in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The Hoyas will host UNC next season for the first time in over a century.

CLOSEST ROAD TRIP

Georgetown will visit College Park on Friday, Nov. 7th in a game that was set up between Cooley and former Terps coach Kevin Willard. Willard has since left to take over at Villanova but the local series that hopefully becomes a regular event will continue with Buzz Williams now in charge at Maryland. The Hoyas have lost four of five against Maryland going back to the season opener in 1993.

ON CAMPUS ACTION

While we could debate as to how many Georgetown games SHOULD be play on campus, the reality is that the Hoyas will play at McDonough twice this upcoming season. The Hoyas close out non-conference play by hosting St. Peter’s on Dec. 13 and Coppin State on Dec. 22 on campus.

FRIENDLY FACES

Georgetown will begin the season by hosting Morgan State on Nov. 3. The Bears are coached by (twice) former Hoyas assistant Kevin Broadus. The Hoyas 8th all-time leading scorer – Austin Freeman – is also on staff with Broadus.

WHAT IF?

Georgetown plays two very intriguing exhibitions, traveling a few miles to George Washington and playing Kentucky at Rupp Arena. If those two games flipped from exhibitions to regular season games, this schedule’s appeal would rival what become normal under JT3.

ANALYSIS

As a harsh critic of last season’s schedule, I give this version a solid B. Maryland is back. Cooley found a Blue Blood to play in UNC and finally, finally the Hoyas have rejoined the world meaningful MTEs. If it included Syracuse at home I’d have given it an A.
