Hunter Dickinson to return to Kansas basketball next season

April 27, 2024 by Zags Blog

By SAM LANCE

Everybody has wanted to know what Kansas star center Hunter Dickinson‘s decision would be: stay in school or go to the NBA Draft. Even head coach Bill Self posed the question to X.com on Friday.

Hey @H_Dickinson24, have you made a decision yet? Everybody wants to know what you’re thinking

— Bill Self (@CoachBillSelf) April 26, 2024

And now, 30 minutes or so later, we have the decision from the man himself. Dickinson will return to the Jayhawks next season.

“Yeah you’re right coach,” Dickinson replied on X.com. “I guess it’s time to tell everyone I’m coming back! Rock Chalk!”

Dickinson, the 7-foot-2, 260-pound big man from Alexandria (VA), averaged 17.9 points and finished No. 8 in the country in rebounds per game at 10.9 during his first year at Kansas. The center also shot 54.8% from the field and 35.4% from 3-point range. He will once again be the focal point of the Kansas offense, and this second go-around, it will likely be less crowded in the paint.

Point guard Dajuan Harris, power forward KJ Adams and Dickinson have now all confirmed they are coming back to Kansas next season. That gives Kansas three starters from last season returning on top of a phenomenal portal class and two quality high school prospects in five-star Flory Bidunga and four-star Rakease Passmore.

All four of Kansas’ portal grabs — guards Riley Kugel, Zeke Mayo, AJ Storr and Rylan Griffen — have shot over 34% from beyond the arc in their careers. They will all provide necessary shooting and floor spacing around Dickinson.

Next year will be Dickinson’s fifth season of college basketball. He played three years at Michigan before transferring to Kansas last season.
