Many assumed the Boston Celtics would be without their star for the entirety of the 2025-26 regular season, but the superstar forward could suit up much earlier than anticipated.
Jayson Tatum has informed the Celtics that he plans on returning to the court this season, according to Shams Charania.
Tatum’s season came to an end after suffering an Achilles tear during a playoff game against the New York Knicks.
Since Boston’s elimination, the franchise has gone through a rebuild of sorts, trading away core members of their championship roster, such as Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, for a relatively small return.
Before his injury, Tatum was enjoying a stellar season, averaging 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
The Celtics’ offseason moves led many to believe the plan heading into the 2025-26 season would be to rebuild before the return of their superstar forward, but with Tatum’s return being a possibility, it remains to be seen how competitive the 2024 NBA Champions plan to be.
