To the surprise of nobody, Jett Howard will play for his father Juwan Howard at Michigan.
The 6-foot-7, 4-star small forward from IMG Academy (FL) committed to the Wolverines over Georgetown, Tennessee and NC State on Wednesday.
“It was really hard. Harder than most people think,” Howard told ESPN. “I took visits and really liked the places and coaches. As of a few days ago, I was unsure. My mom and aunt played a big role as they came on the visits. They helped put things into perspective.”
Jett told ESPN his father wanted him to go through the recruiting process like any other player.
“My mom would tell me my dad told her the same things that he was telling me. He told me how much he believes in me as a player. That he will put me in the best position to succeed,” Jett Howard said. “What my dad said that really got my attention was, ‘We need you from day one. I know your game better than anyone else. If you were not my son, I would still recruit you.’ And, of course, I trusted him the most. He has developed me my whole life. Opportunities like this do not come around often.”
Michigan now has the No. 3-ranked recruiting class in Howard, point guard Dug McDaniel, small forward Gregg Glenn and big man Tarris Reed.
“Jett in my opinion is extremely undervalued by most that watch him play,” IMG coach Sean McAloon said. “He is an elite shooter, playmaker, and at his position the best passer. It’s rare to find someone wired to score that is willing to make the right play consistently. I don’t think he gets enough credit for that as people watch him play!”
