The New York Knicks managed to start off their season in the win column against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the injury bug is certainly putting a damper on any celebration going on in the Big Apple.
Knicks All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns was unsure if he would play in the team’s opening night game against the Cavs, first being reported as questionable, then doubtful, and back to questionable once again before ultimately taking the court. He scored 19 points along with 11 rebounds as the Knicks won a seesaw affair at the Garden, but later told reporters post-game he is playing through a Grade 2 quad strain.
“I didn’t want to disappoint the fans,” Towns said about playing on opening night. “It’s not something that’s easy to deal with. We made it happen tonight. I’m glad the fans respected the effort I put in to play tonight.”
The injury bug has been going around the Knicks roster. They played their first game of the season without key players Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson. The former is dealing with lumbar back spasms, while the latter is going through load management.
It remains to be seen if Towns will continue to play through his injury as the Knicks stay home to take on the Boston Celtics on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on Prime.
