Having transferred in from Rutgers Prep, 6-foot-8 Class of 2027 guard Andrew Kretkowski has adapted seamlessly to an uptempo, free flowing offense at St. Joseph’s (Metuchen).
As an explosive big guard who has added muscle onto his frame and emerged into a more of a consistent shooter, Kretkowski is starting to hear from several programs across the country.
He recently visited Rutgers and has been hearing from the likes of Penn State, Notre Dame, VCU and Stanford. Florida State and Arizona State have also offered Krerkowski.
“VCU has been up here a bunch, which I am excited about,” said Kretkowski, who is averaging 18 points and eight boards this season.
“At Stanford, (assistant coach) Brett MacConnell, he is a Jersey guy and once he moved over there (from Princeton) he really reached out to me.”
Notre Dame assistant coach Mike Farrelly has also been in numerous times to see Kretkowski dating back to open gyms, as the high soaring finisher continues to establish strong bonds with the Fighting Irish.
“Coach Farrelly, he will send me quotes from NBA players, from GMs, and just powerful quotes from interviews. It is definitely motivational. He is just telling me to keep being myself.”
Being himself and playing his game has been integral in ultimately enabling Kretkowski to thrive. He has found his niche as a focal point in an uptempo attack, one which gives him freedom and features plenty of quick hitting plays.
“Shooting the ball efficiently, that’s a big thing for me,” Kretkowski said.
“That’s a big focus. I really keyed in on shooting from long range, definitely catch and shoot threes. My mid range pull-up, I’m really focusing on that right now.”
