LeBron James will head into his 23rd season with sciatica, also known as nerve pain to the sciatic nerve.
The injury was first reported by Shams Charania.
James also missed the early portions of training camp with ‘nerve irritation’.
This marks the first time James will miss the season opener in his his illustrious 23 seasons.
Last season, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game in the midst of a season headlined by the blockbuster trade for NBA superstar Luka Doncic.
The Lakers hope the pairing can make a push for at least one more championship before James calls it a career.
