NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Class of 2026 guard Lyndell Buckingham has seen his stock rise over the last few months after a strong showing with ProSkills on the EYBL circuit. Viewed as a talented scorer, Buckingham, the 6-foot-2 guard out of Pace Academy (TX), averaged 16.2 points per game at Peach Jam.
Playing a key part in his team’s success to the tournament quarterfinals, Buckingham has began to hear from various Division I schools. Buckingham currently holds one offer from Jacksonville, but he’s recently received interest from a variety of programs. With a true point guard frame, Buckingham prides himself as an elite and versaitile defender, complimenting his exceptional scoring ability.
“A lot of people don’t like to play defense,” Buckingham told ZAGSBLOG. “I play defense.”
Spending this summer with a talented ProSkills team, Buckingham learned to stay positive while going through shooting slumps and struggles offensively.
“My jump shot wasn’t going in the first three sessions,” Buckingham said. “I stay consistent, stay in the gym and it’s falling now.”
The point guard averaged 10.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 14 regular season games before a productive Peach Jam, where he posted 16.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Buckingham broke down the schools in his recruitment with ZAGSBLOG. :
Jacksonville: “Coach [Troy] Pierce. He talks to me everyday. Really showing a lot of love. That’s really the only person reaching out. I’m supposed to be getting on a zoom call a little later this week with the full coaching staff, get to know everybody.”
New Mexico State: “Coach [Shunn] Buchanan is reaching out. He watched me play at TABC. He said he liked my game. He said he’s gonna watch me play Thursday, so looking forward to that.”
UT Arlington: “Texted me yesterday, said they like my game. They coming to watch my game tomorrow too.”
San Jose State: “Really the same thing. They coming to watch me play tomorrow too. Coach [Jeff] Strohm is coming to watch me play. I really got to do some more research on the conferences and stuff like that.”
Buckingham told ZAGSBLOG that there is one NBA player he has always watched closely, due to the similarities between the two’s play styles: Bones Hyland. With almost identical frames, Buckingham said he has been compared to the former VCU star by various people.
The point guard added he’s looking for a program that values their point guards and trusts them.
“Willing to let me do what I do best: scoring the ball and getting my teammates open,” Buckingham said. “Really letting me rock out.”
Coming from a family of football players, Buckingham is looking to become the first person in his family to play collegiate basketball, which means a lot to him and his family.
“It’s gonna be pretty good,” Buckingham said. “Everybody’s counting on me back at home.”
When Buckingham isn’t on the basketball court, he enjoys bowling or playing golf. What will he bring to the next level?
“A dog,” Buckingham said. “Willing to do anything for my team to win. That’s what my coaches stress. Win. You gotta be able to win to get to the next level, that’s what coaches like. I’m gonna do anything to win.”
