Tyler Kolek suffered an oblique strain in No. 5 Marquette’s rout of Providence.
The reigning Big East Player of the Year suffered the injury in the second half and checked himself out. He finished with 12 points and 6 assists in the 91-69 win.
“He had a pain on his side that he said he felt after he made a pass, he kind of twisted awkwardly,” Marquette coach Shaka Smart told Bill Raftery on FS1 .”We’ll have to get that checked out. Obviously, he’s our guy. But I thought our guys did a good job when he went out and just continued to respond and fight.”
Kolek also had to be stitched up near his right eye in the first half after sustaining a cut that led to blood streaming down his face.

Marquette (22-6, 13-4 Big East) is in second place in the Big East and is a projected No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Their final three games are very tough: at No. 12 Creighton, home for No. 3 UConn and at Xavier.
