Kirill Elatontsev – a 6-foot-11 center from Russia that was cleared to play by the NCAA in October, has committed to Oklahoma, it was announced on Tuesday. Elatontsev played for Lukomotiv Kuban in Russia and averaged 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game last season.
The big man is set to fill Oklahoma’s final vacant roster spot and will be eligible to play for the Sooners immediately.
Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser has been looking to add some front-court depth, and the 23-year-old center will have the opportunity to join a rotation already consisting of Mohamed Wague, Kai Rogers and Kuol Atak.
The Sooners won’t play again until next Monday, when they host Mississippi Valley State. It remains unclear if their meeting with the Delta Devils will be Elatontsev’s debut for Oklahoma.
